An appalling start to an exalted tournament

Match score and Time when the match was abandoned

Male, MALDIVES - Who would have been even guessed that the start of this year’s President’s Cup will go this much nasty? We haven’t seen such a situation where the match has been abandoned in our local soccer for a long time, may be not at all.

The night was perfect; the crowd was awesome at the start cheering their respective clubs. The packed stadium has the best attendance seen in this season, but things lead to an unexpected direction.

Victory kicked off the game and Victory was better than New Radiant in the early stage of the game. New Radiant missed dearly their playmaker and captain Ali Umar in their midfield and Victory found enough space to produce their attacking powers.

Fouls were established into the game from a very start of the game and the first was Rishfan’s foul on Fareed in the first minute of the game.

Ashfaag was first cautioned in the 20th minute for his foul against Ismail.

Two minutes later Anil was shown yellow for fouling Bel Hassan of New Radiant. Fazeel took the free kick on the edge of Victory’s penalty area, but sailed over the cross bar.

Victory scored the first goal in the 32nd minute from Ismail Mohamed, he got the chance when Adam failed to clear the danger mounted by Nafiu inside New Radiant penalty area.

One incident in first half had a huge impact on the physical part of the game. In the dying minute of the first half, it seems Adam deliberately elbowed Ismail during the play when Ismail fouled on him. But with the consultation with FIFA assistant referee, Mohamed Saeed, referee Ameez showed only a yellow card. Everyone in the stadium felt it should have been a straight red card at that instant. The match did not heat up from it as the first half finished shortly after it.

Goffa made two substitutions during the half time; he introduced Shimaz for Sameer and Abdullah Mohamed for Adam.

In the first minute of second half, a superb header from Ashfaag missed the target.

Early in the second half, Victory doubled the lead from Shiyam in the 47th minute. A decent cross from Friday fell really well into unmarked Shiyam, who made no mistake in sending the ball into the back of New Radiant’s net.

Two minutes later, luck found its way to the blues side when a hand ball from Nafiu inside Victory penalty area lead to a penalty to New Radiant and in form Fazeel did his best.

In the 54th minute Fazeel passed a corner to Abdullah Mohamed and he took a real good shot which went inches away from Victory goal.

But three minutes later Abdullah leveled the game for the blues. Fazeel’s first shot was blocked by defenders and then he headed the ball to Abdullah.

Before the goal, the players of Victory were unhappy with the decisions taken by the referee and Faisal was booked by the referee for kicking the ball out while it was out of play.

And the later incident, which of course is the talking point of the match, happened when Ashfaaq kicked the ball when he was offside and Imran deliberately pushed him.

Then the supporters near Victory goal (Majeedhee Magu side) started to erupt. They came to the goal line and started to interfere the decision taken by the referee. Then the referee took some time off and then had a minor discussion with the fourth official and assistant referee Mohamed Saeed and went and booked Ashfaaq and he was given the marching order for his second yellow and another yellow card for Imran.

The new radiant supporters then erupted and the billboards near the stadium were thrown away. Referee then moved out of the scene as it happened near the New Radiant supporters and he waited near the rostrum. The players also followed him and it seems one of the Victory players threw a water bottle at the New Radiant supporters and Victory’s captain Imran also shot the ball towards the frustrated New Radiant supporters.

The spectators then got furious and started to chant. Later New Radiant chairman, Azim spoke to the players and they went and spoke to the supporters to calm down. Later the supporters went back to their seats and referee Ameez came back on the pitch. He ordered Imran to kick off the ball from the fouled spot and again New Radiant supporters got furious about the decision.

The supporters were calling to show a second yellow for Imran and they started to throw water bottles at him. So, Suzeyn called his players to leave the field and later it was announced that the match was abandoned and the decision about the game would be announced later.

The spectators then stayed back and were chanting for the resignation of the match commissioner who is also the referee’s committee chairman.

The whole incident was also viewed by the president as he also came few minutes before the incident happened. He left when it was decided by the match commissioner to abandon the game.

The spectators then refused to leave the stadium until their ticket money was paid. Some of the spectators also destroyed the ticket booths which are in Majeedhi Magu. And money in that counters were also stolen. But the amount is not confirmed by the authorities so far.

With all these drama in the first game, it is questionable whether FAM will reschedule the tournament or not.

It's Ameez'a mistake. he just cant understand the match. I hope that the diciplinary committee will take action to the refree Ameez for his "D Grade Performance on the Pitch. thank u - Dano

i think FAM should saw a big red card to rafree AMEEZ and he must be out of rareez line. as he don't know how to controll football match. - Wasinttey
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I believe this was happened because of NRSC and its supporters are degraded and they do not have any disipline. If FAM is capable of taking action againstunlowful deeds give a suspension for NRSC following a penalty of not less than Mrf 25000/-    I saw ashfag calling supporters and giving command  that caused eruption for the second time. - Adam
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was at the game last night. DId you see when Imran brought down ashfag in a wrestling move? he then kicked the bll into the supporters. Vic number 2 then threw a bottle full of water at the supporters. i dont blame them for getting upset. i saw it with my own eyes. Have you noticed that everytime ameez refrees, something like this happens. At half time he was more concerned with spotting the people shouting at him rather than trying to refree the game better. new Radiant could have easily gone on and won the game last night if not for his poor descisions. - dreg

nrsc thinks they are the only team who have supporters... dont think like that other teams also have supporters but theu are not like these guys when ever refree makes a mistake they dont have to come on to the pitch and make all these fuss... nrsc management has to be fined by (million)... nrsc supporters grow up... - rEDdEVILS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Could you please explain to me why the scoreboard states 66:35 as the time? Anyways, Ameez has been the cause of many mishaps and incidents in football matches in Mldives and it is about time FAM do something about the issue. - Shabau
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Its just another bad decision from Ameez. I have no idea why FAM keeps appointing this guy for the BIG games while he is notorious for mishandling the matches. He could have just ignored the kicking of the ball and pushing and let the game go on, cos the scores were level. OR, he could have shown red for both the players. Its so sad that FAM cannot improve the quality of refreeing in this country. You don't have to go by the book all the time. Grow up FAM. - Anil
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What u mean mohamed. If refree deliberately did something, all supporters should even go and rip the f.. grass out of the pitch.Well done newradiant  supporters. Maldivian football will evolve in to something spectacular with your efforts. Thanks MS for the excellent coverage. - sappu
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hello all.so it is proven that maldivian football like wat DX in wrestling raw tells s@@k it.wat a attitude is tis shame of tis man - sathas kumar
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If the match is to stand does it mean cards shown in this match will stand. If not its not fair.
If the cards shown in this match stands, does it mean Ashfaq cannot play in the replay match but in the subsequent match. That will also not be fair.
If a replay is to be played does it mean Ali Umar can play in the replay. This could also be not fair. - Jack
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

it's suzeyn's mistake as far as i'm concerned. He cant take the team ff the pitch when he wants. Match was resumed, referee ddint stop the game, but Suzeyn did. He thinks he's above the law I guess. Replay the match and fine suzeyn for his actions. - ahmd S
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

dont blame newradiant supporters. If FAM fail to bring justice, then we have to make justice. How many millions of money we have spent every yeah? a single mistake from refree will change evrything still we have to wail.Am sure FAM can not make Justice. - Sham
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NRSC suppotors dont try to do what ever u want and be like adults dont be like kids its not reasonable to get in to the pitch everytime refree takes a bad decision and do what is needed 4 the team spritual support gont be football hoolgans hpoe this will not happen again as i was waititng for the score thanxs for maldivesoccer for there work in updating us - mohamed
